Entry #13 – Day 14

In my view, OrigamiBox became something between a decoration and a platform. During the presentation of our project, we were often approached with requests including ‘Could I see different colours?’ ‘Can it be more flashy?’ ‘Can it go slower and with more pastel colours?’ We thought about all these options before, however, we did not have enough time to implement them. It is indeed the case, that OrigamiBox offers a lot of space for user interaction, which would improve the final product. In the end, we added variables for colour tone change and brightness, however, additional ones should be implemented to select patterns, frequency, speed etc. Rather than merely changing the code, buttons and analogue switches would work better, perhaps built into another laser-cut MDF remote controller.

We were also considering using sensors that would carry out some of the abovementioned options. Touch sensors on each box could be also implemented as switches, turning on/off the particular ‘LED box.’ One of us also suggested coding a tic-tac-toe. Some of our ideas would be hard to implement or would not be visually appealing given the resources available to us in the lab.

For the reasons above I perceive our OrigamiBox more as a platform. The future of the prototype is its transfer to Abu Dhabi, where we inshallah implement some of the feedback once we are all back for the Fall semester.
